Sniping in WetWork

First of all, this guide is made for beginners or people that are humble enough to call themselves noobs. So I don't want hear anybody especially people who call themselves 'pros' bitching about how lame I am or how much I suck.

Right. With that out of the way lets talk about sniping, specifically, in Wet Work. Wet Work is one of the easiest places to snipe at, and to get a 10+ killstreak. The enemy is always in the opposite side, and sniping spots are limited.

Call of Duty is not Counter-Strike. Sniping here is not a matter of holding a large sniper rifle and shooting like a gorilla. Sniping in COD4 is an art form. Like in real life, you'll need to hold your breath to get a straight shot. And where you snipe from is not only important, its vital for your survival.

COD4 maps are also larger and more detailed than Counter-Strike. In the right spots, you can be literally invisible. Hence its important to train your eye to look for subtle changes in the map, a head, an arm sticking out, etc. Here are some examples of how small characters can look in COD4. And I'll also be showing popular sniping spots in Wet Work.

Sniper training (1)

See him? That guy is actually standing up. Quite obvious too, for an experienced player.

Sniper training (2)

There. He's down. If you are playing in servers filled with experienced players, don't expect them to be standing up like this. Most of them would be sniping from a crouched position like this.

Sniper training (4)

From a crouched position, you'll see nothing but a bump. A bump perhaps 20 pixel in diameter. That would be his head peeking out. Still can't see anything?

Sniper training (5)

Boom. Headshot.

Sniper training (7)

Here is a common spot to hide in if you are playing as Spetsnats, keep in mind, the battle space is fluid, teams often switch sides in combat. At this spot, you are exposed to both sides of the ship. Stick to the right corner if you wish to snipe only one side. The corner will shield you from the other.

Sniper training (8)

Sometimes, people will snipe from the center mast. Like so.

Sniper training (9)

Pop! There goes his head. Beautiful blood splatter pattern ala Jackson Pollock.

Sniper training (10)

People also can snipe from the ground floor, here...

Sniper training (11)

and here. Take note: they can do the same on the other side, it'll be pretty redundant to show you both.

Sniper training (12)

Another popular spot would be from the stairs in the center. There are four sets of stairs that snipers can hide themselves at. So be careful, don't be too focused on the top floor.

Sniper training (13)

Some of the more adventurous ones might jump up to that container. It takes some practice to get up there, but its not really worth going... its a lousy spot to snipe from; its to exposed.

I prefer to play as S.A.S in Wet Work, because I get the higher ground and I only need one Claymore to cover my ass. I'll talk about Claymore placements if there is any demand for it.

There is very little spots that Spetsnats can snipe from, whereas SAS can snipe from all the spots that I've mentioned.

The usual spots are here...

Sniper training (14)

and here

Sniper training (18)

take note, i am talking about both sides, like i said earlier, its quite redundant to show you both. Dumb people might also decide that its ok to snipe from the balcony. Don't. Spetsnats can also snipe from the stairs in the center, some would call it the 'bridge'.

Ok. Lets talk about Perks.

The most ideal Perks and weapons for sniping would be the following:

M40A3 (normal scope, NEVER use ACOG for sniping, its retarded)
G3 + Silencer (G3 or M14, so you can share ammo with the M40A3/R700/M21)
Claymore (Sniper's best friend)
Overkill
Iron Lungs

However if you've just started and haven't unlocked Overkill, stick with UAV Jammer. Some people can live without Iron Lungs, but I can't. So use it when you have it. Look forward to Claymores... its vital for a sniper's survival.

If you've just unlocked M21. Make sure you match it with Stopping Power, because its not strong enough to deliver a 1 shot kill from a distance, even in Hardcore mode.

My Sargent sniping pack is as so.

M21
USP + Silencer
C4
Stopping Power
Extreme Conditioning (for rushing from one camping spot to another)

Never use Steady Aim. Its for automatic firing from the hip (as in not aiming), NOT SNIPING. Even with Steady Aim, the spread and accuracy when you fire automatically, only improves by a weeeeee bit. Forget it. Extreme Conditioning is better.

Special thanks to iKill for volunteering for this demonstration.
